Dr Lewis Mayo

Dr Lewis Mayo is Lecturer of Chinese Studies at Asia Institute. Lewis is a specialist in the history of the Chinese Inner Asian borderlands. His latest research involves the field of sensory history – the study of how sight, sound, taste, touch, smell and the broader category of “feel” operate in history.

Lewis is part of a large group of Australian scholars interested in the history of the Chinese Inner Asian borderlands, which includes people working on Mongolia, on the history of Chinese-Tibetan relations, on Chinese Islam and on the interface between China and the Iranian and Turkic worlds, and on the Manchurian / Korean border area.
