Our guest for this episode is Professor Barry Tuckwell, OBE and AC. Barry is a Professorial Fellow at the Faculty of Music and a triple Grammy nominee.
Barry Tuckwell!|s career in music spans more than 50 years during which he has performed around the world as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor. Born into a distinguished musical family in Melbourne, he joined the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at age 15, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra before leaving Australia for England at 19.
After playing with the Halle, Scottish National, Bournemouth and London Symphony Orchestras he has concentrated since 1968 on a career as a horn soloist and conductor.
Professor Tuckwell is a former chief conductor with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and founding Music Director of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
He continues to have an active international career as a guest conductor, teacher, broadcaster, and giving lectures and masterclasses.
Professor Tuckwell has made more than 50 recordings, and is considered the most recorded horn player.
