Jacky Angus began her professional life in electronic journalism with the ABC, reporting for This Day Night (now 7.30) and scriptwriting for broadcasts to schools. She then spent several years in book editor with Jacaranda Press; Niugini Press (PNG); Penguin Books Australia; and the Franciscan Press in Jerusalem. Later work in refugee settlement, multicultural policy, foreign aid in Indonesia, and teaching all led to an interest in Islam and the Muslim world. She spent regular periods in Egypt throughout the 1990s, studying Arabic and working for local newspapers and magazines, and continues to visit regularly. She joined the staff of the University of Melbourne in 2000 and is now based at the Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI).
